5 Ways to Style Capri Leggings for Fall

9/27/2019

All summer long I was obsessed with my bike shorts, so when I found a pair of capri leggings, I knew that I had struck style gold for fall. With the mercury still in the mid 70’s, the transition to fall fashion can be a little tricky. These leggings are the perfect piece to shift out of summer and into fall. And with a length just below my knee, they are the obvious choice to replace my beloved summer bike shorts. I spotted these little capris at H&M and you can find them here.  I think the length makes them look less active and more fashion. And because I’ve been wearing them constantly since they arrived on my doorstep, I thought they would be the perfect piece to use in my “5 Ways to Style Challenge”.

The Love of a Challenge…

I’ve really loved giving myself the challenge of “5 Ways to Style…” over the last few months. For Summer, I wrote a post on “5 Ways to Style Leopard Print Shorts “. My rule is to use whatever is in my closet at the time for these challenges. So I need to get creative while still keeping on-trend. For this capri challenge, I ended up pulling out alot of my favorite pieces from my closet. But I also ended up using some pieces that I haven’t worn in a very long time. These challenges are a great way to take stock of my wardrobe and pull out things that I normally wouldn’t reach for. Read on to see the 5 looks that I came up with…

The first outfit features my favorite oversized denim jacket. This was a recent acquisition from my husband – you can read about it here. I really love the idea of all black with denim for fall so I paired a simple, lightweight black turtleneck under the jacket. I added a suede black belt bag which looks very cute with the outfit but is a little hard to see in the pics. But the shining star of this outfit has to be the studded pumps. I’ve had them for 20 years and they look as cool now as they did when I spent a small fortune on them back in the day. I love how they elevate the look. This outfit could go from day to night with ease – I love how it turned out..

For the next outfit I decided to use an Acne blazer that I’ve had for a few years. The pink and blue colorblock design make it really unique. I rarely wear it and when I put it on, I really couldn’t figure out why. It has a fantastic, slightly oversized fit that looks really cool with the capris. The white tank and sneakers keep the look sporty and daytime and I threw on a pair of gold hoop earrings just to give the look a touch a glam. I am kinda in love with the way this outfit turned out. It is so wearable ad perfect for early Fall.

This next outfit might be my favorite – and it’s the one that gave me the idea for this post. I topped the capri leggings with my favorite oversized linen shirt. I found it at Zara last year and it’s become a favorite. It’s got a beautiful, loose fit and I think it looks better the more wrinkled it gets! I paired it with my cuban chain from Mango which you can find here. And for the shoes I used my favorite ankle boots. This is such a cool and casual look – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn this exact outfit over the last month!

The fourth outfit is completely my style. I used my oversized neutral cardigan and paired it with a graphic tee. The sweater is a few years old and it is such a beautiful, soft khaki color that it really looks good with everything. Bonus points for it not being itchy when worn over a short sleeve tee! The Bowie graphic tee is another recent purchase from Mango – I’m such a Bowie fan and this had a really great vintage look. You can find it here. But the boots! I absolutely love these boots and totally forgot about them. I was thrilled wen I found them at the back of my closet. I’ve worn them to death and it’s a miracle that they aren’t falling apart. They’re the perfect low cowboy boot and seriously the most comfortable shoes ever. This is my go-to fall look. When it get’s a little colder I’ll layer a shrunken jean jacket under the sweater and throw on a scarf – excited to trot around town in this outfit!

For the final look I decided to do something a little different. I layered one of my favorite shirt dresses over the capris and I think it looks completely awesome! I featured this shirtdress in a blog post this past Spring, you can read it here. It has such a loose, easy fit and its really the perfect length. I admit I was really surprised at how great it looked layered over the capris. I think the proportions work really well. I went for a totally different look for my shoes and used my brogue wingtips. I just love the look of these shoes when worn without socks  – such a cool and edgy vibe. I layered on a few gold necklaces for a bit of shine and viola – I had the perfect fall look. And just like the other outfits, layering on a jacket and scarf will take this outfit right into early November.

I’ve linked some great options below that cover all these capri legging looks. I’d love to know which of the above is your favorite – leave a comment below and let me know what you think.
