5 Ways to Style a Black Lace Bodysuit

6/25/2020

During a recent closet clean out, I ran across a black lace bodysuit from Forever 21 that I have no recollection of ever buying! I was pretty shocked when I found it layered under some old lingerie that I was getting rid of. It didn’t really seem to be the type of thing that I would buy but I have to admit that I was eyeing a white lace bodysuit a few weeks ago on the Zara website. So the timing of my little discovery seemed to be perfect!

I haven’t done a “5 Ways to Style…” post on my site for some time and this lace bodysuit seemed like the perfect base piece to come up with 5 different looks. When I do a “5 Ways to Style…” challenge, my rule is to use whatever is in my closet at the time. So I need to get creative while still keeping on-trend. I ended up using some of my favorite pieces to create these 5 looks, many of which I’ve featured in previous blog posts. I linked them below in case you want to take a peek. Read on to see the 5 looks I came up with…

The first outfit is my version of a “dressy” look. This is the type of thing I would wear out to a cocktail party or a date night. I really love the sophisticated simplicity of this lace body suit paired with ankle-length black trousers. I’ve had these pants for years – they were a Zara find and I love the pleated front detail. I tend to stay clear of front pleats on pants since they often make me look a little frumpy and these are one of the only ones I’ve tried on that are flattering. The ankle wrap sandals are from Robert Clergerie and I’ve had them for years. I think they work nicely with the whole look. I’d add a leather jacket or faux fur coat to this look and it would work perfectly for the colder months too.

I have to admit that this sporty look really surprised me – I just love how it turned out! I used my favorite capri leggings which I featured in a blog post here. I found them at H&M last summer and I still wear them all the time. And since comfort is key these days, I threw on my chunky white sneakers – a Zara score from a few seasons ago. They’ve been in heavy rotation ever since I got them and I love how they ground the clean lines of the body suit and capris. For the accessories I added a suede crossbody bag, a shell necklace and one of my husband’s baseball hats. I think the mesh-back trucker style looks perfect with this outfit. I’m so in love with this look that I think I’d wear it every day this summer if I could!

The third outfit features the lace bodysuit and denim. It’s such an easy summer look that you could dress up or dress down, depending on the occasion. I kept this look really casual with my super relaxed fit jeans. They have a great high waist and are the perfect medium wash. I wear them often and I featured them in a blog post a few months ago. This simple outfit really needed some great accessories so I added my favorite cuban gold chain that I found at Mango last fall. In keeping with the gold theme I paired my studded black patent leather thong sandals with this look. I found these a couple of seasons ago from YOOX – they have a great Valentino RockStud-look. And of course the fedora adds just the right amount of casual summer style. This look is so my personal style!

If you know me at all, you know I’m obsessed with blazers. So the oversized blazer layered over the lace bodysuit look was kind of a no-brainer for me. I’m obsessed with this blazer that I found on sale at Zara in the beginning of the Spring season. I bought it in an extra-large just to make sure that it had the right fit and the the color is perfect – not too light and not too dark – I’ll  be wearing it year-round for sure. Since we’re talking summer outfits, I wanted to keep this styling a little more casual so I decided to use my relaxed grey denim shorts. This look would be gorgeous with a pair of tailored black shorts as well. I think the floral headscarf from Mango gives it a fun, slightly boho vibe and the padded mule sandals are an ode to my current obsession with anything Bottega Venetta. I’m so psyched with how this outfit came together!

For my final outfit, I just had to do black and white. I’m a button-front shirt kinda girl and I have an entire closet full of them – all are either blue stripes or white. The white shirt I used here has an oversized collar which I love. It’s a great relaxed fit that works well loose, tucked in or tied at the waist. I decided that a simple pair of cut-off black denim shorts would be keep this look chic and simple. I really love the cool, “South of France” vibe of this outfit. I feel I could wear it for cocktails by the pool or a long lunch overlooking the beach. Maybe it’s the black and white espadrilles which have a very Chanel quality to them. This is such a classic look that would never go out of style- very tres chic!

And there you have it! Five looks that are easy to wear – and you probably have some of these pieces in your closet already! I’ve linked some great black lace bodysuits below along with a few versions of some of my favorite pieces I used for these looks. Leave a comment below and let me know which outfit is your favorite!
