Asymmetrical Tank

06/22/2022

There’s nothing more inspirational than summer weather. Here in NYC, it seems like we’ve been in hibernation, patiently waiting for the mercury to rise. That must be why it’s taken me so long to do another blog post! I just needed a little jolt of vitamin D from the sun to wake me up.

I think summer is the best season for trends and this year is no exception. One of my favorites is mixing neutrals with vibrant pops of color – an aesthetic that always feels modern and chic. If you are familiar with this blog and how I style my outfits, you know that I like to add few key seasonal trends to items I currently own. This look is a great example of combining the old with new.

It all started with this asymmetrical tank. I have been obsessed with white tank tops for some time now. Don’t get me wrong, I do flirt with other colors, but I always return to the tried-and-true white. I’ve been eyeing an asymmetrical version for months and finally broke down this Spring and scooped up this Zara one. And I can tell you that I’m in love!

The wider shoulder strap makes it a little less bare than many of the versions in the stores right now. I sized up so it wasn’t skin tight and I’m so glad I did – I adore the fit. Between you and me, the struggle to find the right bra to wear underneath a one-shoulder top was real! Surprisingly, there weren’t many options out there and I’m pretty sure that I tried them all! But I finally found an adjustable/removable strap version at Macy’s – it’s perfect! You can wear it any way that works for your body type – I prefer to use one strap only with this top.
I’ve had this tropical print wrap skirt for years and it still feels fresh for summer. It reminds me of a the printed sarong skirt/swimwear trend that is everywhere this year and it’s a look  I adore. So why not take it from the beach to the streets? You can style a skirt like this in a million different ways. I think I’ll do a night-out look on vacation in a few weeks by pairing it with an oversized white linen shirt tied at the waist and low heels.

Speaking of shoes, white low-top converse were the only shoes that came to mind when planning this look. They make the whole outfit casual and fun and nothing looks better than tanned legs and white sneakers – am I right? And of course, I’m of the mindset that a few gold chain necklaces are essential to finish off every outfit and this one was no exception.

It’s amazing how a few simple pieces can make a big summer style statement. I plan on wearing this tank all summer long with denim shorts, bike shorts, and loose-fitting cargos. And I’ll be layering it under blazers and oversized shirts. The styling possibilities are endless! I’ve linked a few tanks, skirts, and sneakers below in case you’d like to try a similar look for yourself!

See you soon!
