Denim Head-to-Toe
10/17/19
Welcome Fall! The only thing I want to wear in these cooler temps is denim. And I just love the look of wearing denim head-to-toe. Lately the look is being called the “Canadian Tuxedo”. But when I lived out in San Francisco it was called the “Mexican Tuxedo”. Whether your name preference is northern or southern, an all-denim outfit is the perfect fall style. And one of the great things about this look is that you can use it as a base to get a variety of looks.

One of my favorite ways to wear denim head-to-toe is keeping the wash color similar in the top and bottom. For these pics I knew I wanted to wear my denim flares from Zara. I found these a few seasons ago and I love the more relaxed leg shape – it’s not quite as extreme as some of the flares in the market right now. For the top, I didn’t have a denim shirt that was close to the brighter blue shade of the jeans, so I decided to use one of my denim jackets instead. I love the way the similar shades gives this outfit more of a one-piece or boilersuit effect.

Once I had my head-to-toe denim look nailed down, I decided to layer on my trench coat. A trench just always looks good, no matter what you wear it with. What I really love about this outfit is how the trench elevates it from super-casual to more of a put-together street style look. I added some black ankle boots with a small wood heel – just because I knew I wanted a bit of heel height to work with the flares. I’ve been wearing these boots alot this fall – you can see them in this recent blog post. And since animal prints are just as big this fall as a year ago, I added my favorite leopard print belt. It’s just the right amount of glam for this casual look.

An all-denim look really is such a great starting point for so much fall outfit inspiration. All you need to do is add some layers and accessories and you can completely change up the look. I love the idea of wearing heels and a faux fur vest or jacket to make this a cool evening look. And while I opted for a similar head-to-toe denim shade, I also love the look of contrasting washes in the top and bottom. I’m particularly fond of lighter wash shirts and darker bottoms.
