Dressed-Up Running Shorts
9/25/2020
I felt it was time to dress up the latest addition to my closet – my running shorts. Over the last few months, my uniform has been bike shorts and a button-front shirt. And while I have settled into this look, I really wanted to change things up a little. I recently started running(!) on a regular basis and I invested in a pair of running shorts. After wearing them fairly consistently and loving their comfortable fit, I thought that they might be a cool update to my trusty bike shorts. And with a slightly shorter length and fuller cut – I really love how they added an updated edge to my button-front shirt outfit.

I normally don’t wear shorter-length shorts but I think these really work for me because they have a more relaxed leg. There is nothing I hate more than having my legs look like sausages encased in skin tight shorts! So I’m a big fan of a loose fit – it seems like such a contemporary update to the bike shorts I’ve been obsessed with for the entire summer season.

There is something so chic about the mix of casual shorts and a button-front shirt- this effortless look just feels so modern. I’d wear this with some white sneakers to run out for errands but I really wanted to show how easy it is to take it up a notch. So I paired this look with some of my favorite ankle-tie sandals from Robert Clergerie. As soon as I added the heels – I was ready to head into the office or go out to dinner (al fresco here in NYC!). It’s so amazing what a pair of shoes can do for an outfit!

A few gold necklaces and a neutral color bag with gold accents added just the right amount of detail to finish off this look. A minimal look still feels so fresh to me so I didn’t want to go overboard with accessories. I just love how this bag keeps the outfit feeling simple yet sophisticated and a few gold chains are the perfect way to pull together any outfit.

Dressing up in these strange times can be a chore. And I’m the first to admit that I am so guilty of throwing on the easiest and most comfortable outfit to get me through the day at home! But the addition of a button front shirt elevates your casual style to something that feels a little more stylish. I’m a huge fan of button front shirts – they are easily the most important elements of my wardrobe. Check out this recent blog post to see another way I style them.

You probably have a version of most of these pieces in your closet already! I encourage you to try and combine a few items that you normally wouldn’t wear together and let me know how it turns out below in the comments. I’ve linked some of my favorite updated white shirts, cool running shorts and accessories down below.
