Oversized Shirt

5/19/2021

The easiest outfit in my closet for Spring 2021 always includes an oversized shirt. I’m finding that it’s the one item in my closet that I keep grabbing again and again. I’m wearing it tucked into high waisted jeans and layered over tank tops. It looks great worn loose and open or buttoned up. And l love to style it under an oversized blazer for a cool take on office-style. To be honest – the only way I haven’t worn an oversized shirt is as a swimsuit cover-up – and that’s only because I haven’t been to the beach yet.

Maybe it’s the residual effects of pandemic style which was all about loose and comfortable clothing. Or maybe it’s the daughter of last year’s oversize blazer trend. Either way, an oversized shirt can elevate any look and make you feel just a little more put together.

I’ve always been a huge fan of button front shirts and over the years I’ve found myself up-sizing fairly often so I can get a roomier fit. There’s nothing worse that a tight, woven shirt – it’s so uncomfortable and pulls in all the wrong places. Is there any girl out there who hasn’t looked down at her chest and seen her shirt gaping open between buttons? Ugh! It’s the worst and happens no matter what size your chest is. Fortunately the oversized shirt trend is here to solve all your style problems!

The outfit in these shots is one that I am wearing on regular rotation this Spring. Basically, I combined all my favorite Spring pieces into one look. There are so many great oversized shirts in the market right now but I’ve had a neutral khaki one stuck in my mind for quite sometime. I was looking for something that I could wear year-round and this was a particular shade that I didn’t have (but knew I needed). I’m of the mindset that investing in neutral colors makes my closet have a season-less style, making just about everything I have work any time of the year. I sprinkle in a few brighter accessories and novelty items but the main colors tend to be black, white, various shades of blues and denim, khakis, tans and grey. They work with any bright color and serve as a really great wardrobe base. This particular khaki shirt was a steal from H&M and it sold out rather quickly, probably based on the color and crisp cotton poplin fabric quality. Luckily I found some other great options on the H&M site that I linked below.

I love the way this shirt looks layered over my lemon yellow tank. The color combination is perfect and the yellow is so soft that it reads as a neutral. Definitely one of my favorite colors for Spring and Summer. I found this tank at Zara and linked a few other similar options below. I’ve been keeping my bottoms very simple lately and find that bike shorts and these capri leggings are my style of choice, especially when I’ve got something with a little volume on top. If you follow this blog then you’ll know that these capri leggings have been one of my style favorites for the warm weather.  Check out this blog post 5 Ways to Style Capri Leggings. I’ve also featured them here and I linked some currently available options below.

But what about these shoes? For those of you who have been obsessed with the Chanel dad sandals from last summer but didn’t have $2k to spend on a pair of shoes, these incredibly cute ones from Tony Bianco were made for you. I’ve been wearing them every day and they are amazing! I’d say size up, I’m wearing a 41 and wish they were a half size larger (I usually wear a US 10). And since accessories “maketh the woman”, I finished this look with a headscarf and some layered gold necklaces. I think the headscarf adds just the right amount of casual boho vibe and I love the neutral floral pattern – I linked similar ones below. And I’ve really been feeling the multicolor beaded jewelry trend that mixes color with gold hardware and chains – it has such a fresh and whimsical vibe. I added some of the pieces that I’ve been eyeing down below. It’s a great way to add just the a touch of color and fun to an outfit..

Below are some of my favorite oversize shirts, including some brights – its the perfect piece to add a pop of color to your Spring and Summer wardrobe. How are you going to be wearing the oversize shirt trend? Let me know in the comments below.

See you soon!
