Spring Shirtdress

5/27/2019

I’ve been loving shirtdresses for the the last few years and I’ve collected quite a few in my closet. They’re incredibly versatile and you can dress them up or keep them super casual – they’re so easy to wear. They fall under my favorite instagram hashtag – #effortlesschic.

The mercury is finally rising here in Brooklyn which encouraged me to style a recent shirtdress purchase for these pics. Spring seems like the perfect time to wear a shirtdress. The weather is warm enough for bare legs and rolled-up sleeves…. and this is the only way that I’ll step out the door. In general I’m not a dress and skirt girl but I’ve been trying really hard to mix them into my wardrobe over the past few seasons. I think what I love about shirtdresses is that they are basically a long button-down shirt. And since I wear those all the time, the transition is pretty painless. It’s kind of like I put on a long shirt and forgot my pants.

The shirtdress in these pics is a really basic style and that’s kinda what I love about it. It’s a Zara purchase and has a button-front, side slits and a simple waist detail just so it has a little surface interest. It acts as a nice background to add whatever accessories that I’m feeling at the time. I knew I wanted to use the cowboy hat and shell necklace for the photos and I added the ring necklace for some additional shine.

The big surprise with this outfit was the boots. I’ve had these forever and I just freaked out when I put them on with this look. They were perfect! They’re a suede ankle boot with a slouchy linen shaft. I used to wear them all the time with skinny jeans and they looked really cool as they puddled down around my ankles. And I love them even more paired with this dress. I feel like this look is very Desert-Chic, or at the very least, West Coast/So-Cal style.

And to top off my West Coast vibe, I found a little beach to shoot these pics – hey, it’s not Santa Monica but it’ll do for Brooklyn. I love how the pier, cement and clouded sky make for a moody backdrop. And the boots were made for photos in the sand.  I’m psyched about how this all came together. I linked a bunch of cool shirtdresses, boots and accessories down below so you too can get that So-Cal style.

See you next time!
