Sweater Set
11/10/2020
As much as I love summer and never want it to end, fall fashion is something I always look forward to. I love the layers and textures as the temperatures start to get cooler. Sweaters are always a big part of fall style and this season I am completely obsessed with sweater sets. The idea of layering a knit crop top or bralette under a cardigan sweater is such a perfect way to wear knits without getting too hot.

I noticed so many great knit cardigan and bralette sets at the end of summer but I wasn’t ready to buy into that look when it was still 90 degrees outside. But as the temperatures dropped, I found myself becoming completely fixated on the sweater set look. I have a few neutral color knit cardigans already so I felt I just needed the perfect little crop bralette top to wear under them all. After much searching I found the one I’m wearing here at Mango.

This little top works perfectly with this open front Zara cardigan that I’ve had for years. This tonal look is exactly what I was hoping for and was the perfect base to build a fresh fall outfit around. And since I’ve been wearing so many leggings and joggers lately, I knew it was time to pull out my current favorite jeans to pair with this sweater set. I’ve been loving light wash denim for a while now and these jeans are my absolute favorite shade of blue at the moment. I scored these in the Spring from Mango but I haven’t worn them as much as I would have liked over the past few months since I’ve spent so much time at home. I just love how this wash looks with the neutral knits and the destroyed denim gives the whole outfit a little bit of edge.

I definitely wanted to belt this cardigan so the bralette top would be peeking out – I just can’t see myself walking around Brooklyn in an exposed cropped top these days. I’ve had this cream colored double belt for nearly 15 years (I think I got it at Armani Exchange) and am thrilled at how it looks paired with the neutral knits and light wash denim. It feels fresh and casual and really pulls the look together. I finished the outfit with some low-key white Converse – the perfect sneaker to wear with light wash denim in my opinion. And with the addition of a few gold necklaces, success!

I have a feeling that I’ll get alot of mileage out of this sweater set moving into the colder months. If I wanted something that felt a little more dressed up or chic, I’d swap the light colored belt for a wide, dark belt and replace the denim with black leggings or a black pencil skirt. Any pair of black boots would take this look to a whole new level – ankle boots, combat boots or over-the-knee boots – they all would look amazing.

There are so many great knit options in the stores right now. I’ve linked some of my favorites below along with some light wash denim, sneaker options and gold necklaces. Let me know how you are wearing your knits this fall in the comments below.
See you soon!
