Utility Chic
4/10/19
Utility Chic style is probably one of my favorite looks for Spring. Army greens and camo prints are such classics – they simply never go out of style. And when you pair them with some cool updated accessories with a pop of color – you are working it like a boss (all of a sudden I started saying that a few days ago in some instagram comments and now I can’t stop)!
I pulled this look from my closet and I can honestly say that I am so excited with the way it turned out. I seriously want to wear this every day! I’ve been wearing camo prints for as long as I can remember – no kidding at least 30 years. I love the way the fashion industry decides to proclaim that “camo prints are back for Spring” – as if they ever left!! They are such a classic and really are like animal prints in the way they act as a neutral. You can wear them with any color and with most prints – I especially love them paired with plaids (which is a super look that I plan on wearing for the Fall). And any shade of army green is the ultimate classic neutral too. I’ve been wearing vintage army jackets since the 80’s. Oops, guess I’m showing my age here….

I featured this shirt in a post a few weeks ago – Basic Outfits, Awesome Accessories – you can find it here. I love the darker green color and the oversized fit. It’s a very crisp poplin which I am a huge fan of. I always feel so put-together when I wear poplin shirts and I love the structure that they have. I found this one on sale at Zara in January and I’ve linked a few great options down below.

But the pants! Guess how happy I was when the fashion gods proclaimed that cargo pants were the hottest trend this Spring. Pulling out these babies from my closet brought tears of joy to my eyes. These pants are seriously about 12 years old – you can tell by that low rise. But who cares! They’re totally awesome. I got these from a spin-off store from Abercrombie & Fitch called Ruehl. It was a cool store concept that had more of a contemporary vibe. Unfortunately they shuttered the brand after only a few years. These pants check off all the best trends in pants right now – camo print, cargo style, flared leg & slim hips. I couldn’t ask for anything more! Check out my best picks for camo cargo pants down below….

When I was pulling this look together, I originally wanted to use a bare white, low-heeled sandal. But I didn’t have one and as I was looking through my shoes, I remembered these rope sandals that I had from Alexander Wang. The chunky block heel is so right for Spring and I think the suede tied rope style really looks cool with the pants.

And this wasn’t the bag I was planning to use either. My initial idea was to use this pretty taupe handbag that folds really nicely as a clutch. But when I spotted this natural-colored woven rope tote – I knew it would be just the right Spring vibe I was looking for. At the very last minute I pulled out this awesome leopard print scarf with a pop of red and tied it on the tote. I love the addition of the print and color to the whole style vibe. And with a few gold layered necklaces, my utility chic look was complete!
I’ve linked great versions of all these styles down below – happy shopping!
